Itinerary
Mon - Morning departure as we head north making our way to the hotel. Arriving in time for our evening meal.
Tue - This morning, we visit majestic Drumlanrig Castle, one of Britain’s grandest castles and a treasure-trove of delights. With impressive gardens and breath-taking views across the Nith Valley, the castle is one of the finest examples of 17th century Renaissance architecture in Scotland. We enjoy a guided tour before travelling to Dumfries for some time at leisure.
Wed - Today, we enjoy a day out combining an Ullswater cruise with a visit to the award-winning Lowther Castle and Gardens. Embarking at Pooley Bridge, we enjoy a 65 minute cruise across the lake to Glenridding where our coach will be waiting. Afterwards we make the short journey to Lowther Castle. On arrival, we hear a 10 minute introductory talk before exploring the dramatic castle ruins and grand, rediscovered gardens at leisure.
Thu - We spend time in Gretna today, taking in the fascinating and interactive Devil’s Porridge Museum where we hear the remarkable story of the “Greatest Munitions Factory on Earth”. We also visit the historic, world-famous Gretna Blacksmiths Shop where we discover the history of runaway romance in the museum and exhibition.
Fri - After breakfast we depart the hotel and start to commence the homeward journey.
