The panoramic view of Durham Cathedral and Castle has been described as “one of the finest architectural experiences of Europe” and together they are now designated as a World Heritage Site. The city centre is delightfully compact and is largely pedestrianised with attractive cobbled alleyways and narrow lanes offering a great range of speciality shops and places to eat.

Itinerary

Fri -  Early morning departure as we head to Durham, with some free time in the city before we check into the hotel. Enjoy your evening meal at the hotel with your evening at leisure.

Sat - After breakfast the day is at leisure in Durham city centre.

Sun -  After breakfast we bid farewell to Durham and travel via Castleside to Corbridge which was once a prosperous Roman Garrison town and major supply base on Hadrian’s Wall. The museum here contains a rich selection of finds from the Roman Corbridge site (museum admission extra). We then continue westwards and view the well preserved forts at Chesters and Housesteads before continuing via Brampton to Carlisle where we make a lunch stop. From Carlisle we travel homewards arriving in the local area at approx. 18.30hrs.
