Matlock Bath & Heights of Abraham Cable Car

NEW FOR 2023

1.5 miles south of Matlock, Matlock Bath was developed as one of the country's first tourist destinations and is sometimes referred to as 'the seaside town without the sea'. Known for its colourful buildings set alongside the River Derwent, it's been a popular tourist destination since the late 17th century when spa waters were discovered here. Its heyday was in Victorian, times when it became known as "Little Switzerland" by the poet, Lord Byron. A popular destination for families, bikers and fun seekers, there are plenty of things to do and see in Matlock Bath!

Your cable car ticket includes access to all these attractions during your visit to the Heights.

Cable Cars - Begin your adventure in one of our famous cable cars, soaring up over the Derwent Valley to the summit of Masson Hill. A flight in our cable cars is just the beginning of your day out at the Heights, but it is a highlight for many. Take your journey up to the summit in style and enjoy the magnificent 360 degree views of the Derbyshire Dales around you.

Show Caverns - Our two guided cavern tours run at regular intervals throughout the day and are included in your admission. Our cavern guides are our very own in-house experts and they know each of our caves like the back of their hand, so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask them! The caverns were formed over 350 million years ago and each hold their own fascinating story.

NEW - Come and see the newly revealed huge deposits of calcite crystals revealed when the Cavern was cleaned during the winter.

Tours around the Masson Cavern take around 35 minutes and involve quite a few upward steps. Tours at the Rutland Cavern take around 20 minutes and involve considerably less steps!

Masson Pavilion Exhibition Hall - Visit the new costume exhibition that showcases exquisite reproductions of period costumes as worn by the Georgian, Regency, Victorian and Edwardian guests who visited the Heights of Abraham between 1787 and 1910.

Modern day guests will be able to walk back through time and come face to face with visitors of the past, whilst learning a little about the social and working conditions of their time. 14 life-sized mannequin figures, beautifully dressed in historically accurate clothing, populate the large exhibition housed in the refurbished Masson Pavilion. Animated picture frames alongside the figures reveal information about each time period.
