Claude Monet's garden at Giverny is probably the most famous garden in France. 500 000 people visit every year. Monet painted some of his most famous paintings whilst living at Giverny. These include his water lily and Japanese bridge paintings. The flower gardens cover about a hectare and are laid out in colour themed, borders. There are literally thousands of flowers in these gardens including masses of tulips, irises, oriental poppies and peonies - plants with wonderful colours providing an inspiration to Monet's paintings.

The 3 star B&B HOTEL Rouen Centre Rive Droite is conveniently located on the right bank of the River Seine, 10 minutes’ walk to the city centre and Rouen Cathedral. The hotel has 88 modern, air-conditioned rooms equipped with TV and hairdryer.

 

Fri -  Morning departure as we make our way to Dover for our crossing to Calais. Once we reach Calais we carry on to our hotel, where you will receive a welcome glass of Kir Cassis. This evening you can take a stroll in Rouen where you can enjoy your evening meal in one of the local eateries.

Sat - Today we travel to Monet’s country retreat in Giverny where we visit the impressionist painter’s charming pink house and iconic gardens. We can then relax in the gardens at our leisure, admiring the Japanese bridge and famous waterlily pond. Later, we travel to the pretty neighbouring village of Vernon and discover over 200 half-timbered houses with ancient doors and carved timbers, wrought iron shop signs, cobbled paths and the famous Old Mill. We can have lunch here and spend the afternoon exploring the church, museums, village and banks of the River Seine at leisure.

Sun - After breakfast we head out for our day excursion to Bayeux.  Its medieval centre contains cobbled streets, half timbered houses and the towering, Norman-Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame. The famed 68-meter Tapisserie de Bayeux, an 11th-century tapestry depicting the 1066 Norman invasion of England, is on display in an 18th-century seminary. 

Mon - After breakfast we depart the hotel and make our way back to Calais to board our P&O ferry to cross back to Dover for the homeward journey.
