York is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, the rich history of York stretches out before you as you walk along the city's walls and narrow shopping lanes. The area where the Jorvik Viking Centre is situated was excavated in the 1970's and visitors can now take a tour of the homes, shops and streets found by the archaeologists. Standing out  above all is York Minster, the largest Gothic Cathedral in England, whilst close by is the medieval shopping street known as “The Shambles”, one of the best preserved medieval streets in the world. The city also has some fine museums including the Castle Museum and the National Railway Museum.

The Queens Hotel - York
The Queens Hotel is perfectly situated on the quieter, western bank of the River Ouse, in the very heart of the city, one of only two central hotels with a riverside location set beside North Bridge, opposite an attractive mix of Georgian buildings and boat moorings. Step out of the hotel and explore all that York has to offer; stroll through the Snickleways  of York, visit York Minster, take in a gallery or museum, enjoy the bustling retail centre or just relax in one of the many cafes, wine bars and restaurants. Hotel facilities include restaurant, bar, lift and all bedrooms have en-suite bathroom, hair dryer, TV, telephone, complimentary Wi-Fi and tea/coffee maker. Please note that the hotel entrance is accessed by ten steps but there is a chair lift available. Ground floor bedrooms can be requested and are subject to availability.

 

Fri -  Travel to York arriving mid-afternoon; check in at the hotel. Later enjoy your evening meal.

Sat - Today enjoy a full day at leisure in York. Returning to the hotel for your evening meal.

Sun - Following a leisurely breakfast enjoy some free time in York before later rejoining the coach for the homeward journey.
