White Swan Hotel, Alnwick
In the centre of Alnwick, this 300-year-old coaching inn is a short walk from Alnwick Castle and Gardens. Its restaurant’s decor was salvaged from the Titanic’s sister ship. The bedrooms all have a private bathroom with a hairdryer and bathroom amenities. Guests can also enjoy a seating area and tea/coffee making facilities in each room.

 

Itinerary

Mon - This morning we make our way to Alnwick. Later check into your room and enjoy your evening meal.

Tue - This morning, we take a scenic journey along the Northumberland coast to cross the tidal causeway to visit Lindisfarne, or Holy Island. The island is home to the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, a unique castle with a Gertrude Jekyll garden and a colony of grey seals. We then travel along the coast taking in the sights of Bamburgh Castle, the one-time seat of the Kings of Northumbria, and the picturesque village of Seahouses.

Wed - Today we travel to the unique and contemporary Alnwick Garden. Created by The Duchess of Northumberland in 2001, The Alnwick Garden is a modern garden and charity. Explore the mysterious Bamboo Labyrinth, or gaze upon the Grand Cascade.

Thu - Today we follow part of the route of Hadrian’s Wall, with an opportunity to see a section of the actual remaining structure. We visit Chesters Roman Fort  to gain an insight into the life of a soldier living on Rome’s northern frontier. At Roman Vindolanda there’s a world famous collection of artefacts. Our journey takes us through the Roman town of Corbridge, and a stop at Hexham Abbey

Fri - Enjoy your breakfast in the hotel before later commencing the homeward journey.
