Mon - Morning departure as we make our way to Holyhead for our crossing to Dublin. We continue to our hotel in Mullingar for our evening meal.
Tue - This morning we visit the Irish National Stud & Gardens where we enjoy a guided tour to learn about the lives of the magnificent horses bred and stabled here. We can also visit the Irish Racehorse Experience, an interactive exhibition which guides us through the process of buying a horse at auction, choosing a trainer, jockey and so forth, before reaching the atmospheric ‘Race Day’. Through a simulator, we get to sit on our racehorse and find out how our investments fare in a race! The final Living Legend room overlooks the paddocks and the retired ‘legends’ that live on the farm. There are also beautiful gardens, including the Japanese Gardens and St Fiachras Garden, to enjoy. We head to the Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre this afternoon, where we tuck into a soup and sandwich lunch before embarking on a guided tour of the factory. We go behind the scenes to see first-hand how quality sterling silver is intricately crafted into jewellery, tableware and gift items. After our tour, we have free time to visit the centre’s Museum of Style Icons fashion museum, which houses collections relating to stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana and the Beatles.
Wed - We spend today at leisure in the vibrant city of Dublin, home to many famous attractions. Returning to the hotel for our evening meal.
Thu - This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Lullymore Heritage Park, a unique site offering an insight into the Irish peatlands and the people who lived and worked within it. We discover its heritage, from Pagan worship right through to the industrial revolution, and how key it was to the industrial use of peat. The park encompasses 60 acres of meandering trails and exhibitions which can be experienced on the Peatlands Heritage Railway. During our visit we try our hand at traditional turf cutting with an expert local guide and tuck into tea/coffee and scones in the café. This afternoon we visit Belvedere House & Gardens, a magnificent 160 acre lakeside estate with a fully restored Georgian Villa, Victorian Walled Garden and 18th century parkland to explore.
Fri - After breakfast we re trace our steps back to the port in Dublin for our crossing to Holyhead .
