Tue - Morning departure as we head south. Check into your room and enjoy your evening meal.
Wed - Today, we head to the Eden Project for a full day exploring this world famous, award-winning attraction. In 1995, the site was a China Clay Pit. Today, in the crater that was left once the pit closed, are massive biomes housing the largest rainforest in captivity. Stunning plants, exhibitions and stories serve as a backdrop to the striking contemporary gardens. Visitors can stroll through the world’s largest steamy rainforests in the largest indoor jungle in the world, complete with luscious tropical plants, a huge crashing waterfall and a lookout high in the canopy. In the Mediterranean Biome visitors can see lemon trees, olive trees, vines and perfumed herbs. A colourful, sensory journey takes you through the warm, temperate regions of the world, taking in South Africa, California and the Mediterranean. Outside, you’ll find exhibits, unique sculptures and a vibrant global garden that tells the fascinating story of plants and how we use them for medicine, fuels, materials and food. It’s quite a place!
Thu - This morning we head for Heligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years, and regarded as one of the most mysterious and romantic estates in England. A genuine secret garden, it was lost for decades; its history consigned to overgrowth. In 1991, the gardens were rediscovered from the brambles of time, and a year later The Lost Gardens of Heligan opened to the public. Today, Heligan remains one of the most loved and romantic gardens in the UK, appreciated as much for its beauty and mystery as for the ground breaking restoration project. There are more than 200 acres, a veritable paradise for the explorer, wildlife, plant lover and garden romantic. The Jungle takes visitors on a sub-tropical journey through bamboo tunnels and under majestic tree ferns, giant rhubarb and bananas whilst the estate reveals a lost world of traditional and rare breeds, wildlife and ancient woodlands. In the afternoon, there’s an option of visiting the historic city of Truro. Although a popular shopping destination for the Cornish, the city is best known for its magnificent Neo-Gothic cathedral with its soaring spires and eye-catching elegant beauty.
Fri - This morning we visit Falmouth, a town renowned for its maritime heritage. Visit the multi-award-winning National Maritime Museum Cornwall which houses a huge collection of boats, retells stories of intrepid explorers and provides an observation window on to the bustling harbour. Pendennis Castle is one of the finest fortresses built by Henry VIII and visitors can explore the restored Victorian and WWII defences complete with sounds and smells! In the afternoon we visit Trebah Gardens, a Cornish valley garden, rich with exotic blooms, vibrant tunnels of colour, and its own private beach.
Sat - after breakfast we depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
